Non-formal Education Centers (1995-2000, 1999-2001)

SVCT established a non-formal education program to help dropout children re-enroll in school. Aided by the Government of India’s Ministry of Human Resource Development, SVCT set up 100 education centers in the Narasannapeta and Polaki Mandals and supported more than 2500 children over the course of five years (1995-2000). During that time, 400 students successfully transitioned to the formal school system. With the help of Srikakulam’s Total Literacy Campaign, another 100 centers in the Kotabommali and Jalumuru Mandals covered 4000 students and mainstreamed over 500 children (1999-2001).

Education Guarantee Scheme (2002-2004)

SVCT’s Education Guarantee Scheme (Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan) was a 2-year program for children who had either did not enroll or dropped out of school. In total, there were 73 centers in the Polaki and Saravakota Mandals, and more than 1600 children were re-enrolled in school. The centers provided non-formal education and training in employable skills. This project was funded by the Government of Andhra Pradesh’s Primary Elementary Education Project.

Rural Entrepreneurship Development Program (1998-2002)

The Rural Entrepreneurship Development Program (REDP) worked with young adults seeking employment opportunities. From 1998 to 2002, SVCT provided vocational training for rural electricians, tailors, and handicraft-makers of jute products, both in Narasannapeta and Kambakaya. These programs successfully trained around 200, mostly women between the ages of 18-35 years.

Adult Education Master Training Program (1989)

SVCT provided a three-day workshop to train one hundred teachers to run adult education centers. This project took place in collaboration with the Government of Andhra Pradesh’s Adult Education Department and the Akshara Kranthi Program.

Child Labor Schools (1999-2001)

SVCT helped educate and rehabilitate children who were forced to engage in child labor. This project covered 100 students through two centers (Tamarapalli, Veeranna Naidu colony), helping them to join appropriate class grades through a bridge school program. This project was sponsored by the National Child Labor Project.

Masonry Training Programs (1992)

SVCT set up masonry training programs by partnering with the Regional Biogas Training and Development Center at the Acharya N. G. Ranga Agricultural University in Hyderabad, as well as the NGO Action for Food Production (AFPRO). Two training camps of 16 days each held in Narasannapeta and Paraselli, taught 24 masons how to construct biogas plants.  These masons participated in building 4000 biogas plants in the Srikakulam District for another SVCT project.
