Eye Camps (1996-2003)
SVCT’s eye camps aimed to provide accessible eye care to underserved rural areas and to empower the local elderly. Almost 1800 operations were performed in and around Narsannapeta, primarily for low-income patients over the age of 55. Conducting 40 diagnostic camps per month and reaching 3000 patients, SVCT prioritized early detection and intervention. Throughout the process, SVCT collaborated with the Arogyavaram Eye Hospital in Sompeta, Visakhapatnam’s Regional Eye Hospital, and HelpAge India, an NGO that focuses on elder care and empowerment.
HIV/AIDS Community Care Support (2007-2010)
SVCT initiated a project for patients diagnosed with HIV/AIDS in the Srikakulam District. The care program provided medical assistance and medicine, as well as basic needs for those who lost employment. This project was funded by the Government of Andhra Pradesh.
Tuberculosis Control Program
(2000-2005)
SCVT coordinated with the Sankar Foundation, the Srikakulam Tuberculosis Control Society, and the RNTCP Center at CHC, Baruva, to screen for tuberculosis and help patients stay compliant with their treatment regimens. This tuberculosis care program ran for five years (2000-2005).
Urban Health Centers (2000-2015)
SVCT set up two urban health centers in the Srikakulam District, sponsored by the Government of Andhra Pradesh’s Urban Slums Health Care Project. This project aimed to reduce the tremendous workload of Government Hospitals in urban areas by providing medical care in areas of need. The Urban Health Center at Gujarathipeta employed one doctor, two ANMs (Auxiliary Nurse Midwives), one Community Organizer, one doctor’s assistant, and two additional staff members. The center provided primary care services and community outreach to promote maternal health and vaccinations, serving a population of approximately 3000 people.
Sexual Health Project for Truck Drivers (2000-2008)
SVCT’s Sexual Health Project aimed to raise awareness about safe sex practices and sexually transmitted diseases (STDs). Truck drivers who were away from home for weeks at a time were often at risk for contracting and transmitting infections. Sponsored by the Andhra Pradesh AIDS Control Society, SVCT conducted awareness camps and education programs to encourage sexual safety and mitigate the prevalence of STDs.
Artificial Limb Distribution (1995-1997)
SVCT distributed artificial limbs to over 100 people with disabilities in the Srikakulam district. This project was funded by the Red Cross Society, Rice Millers Association of Srikakulam and Rotary Club, Visakhapatnam.
Safe Motherhood Program (1995-1996)
SVCT’s Safe Motherhood Program aimed to provide prenatal and antenatal care to the community. One Medical Officer, ten ANMs (Auxiliary Nurse Midwives), and one coordinator ensured healthy deliveries and conducted follow-up visits, especially for patients who did not have access to public health hospitals. With the help of the Government of Andhra Pradesh’s Ministry of Family Welfare, the program was able to reach the entire Narasannapeta Mandal.
